Maru Sushi & Grill is by far one of the best sushi restaurants that I have been to in the Lansing area. I have had my fair share of sushi places but this one sticks out to be one of the most memorable. Maru has a few locations near me but I always visit the one near the Meridian Mall in Okemos. The restaurant itself has a smaller yet very broad vibe to it. The seating areas are close together but I like it. I think it gives you a way to meet new people and share the friendly environment with your neighbor sitting in the table next to you. One of the few things that stands out the most is how small some of the tables are. A table for two is probably the size of two desks from Mr. Schraubens room. What could you really fit on those?
When I went there a few days ago, there was a “trainy”, you know someone who is being trained to be a waiter/waitress. She was the sweetest, coolest and probably one of the nicest waitresses I have ever had. Her and everyone else has made every one of my visits the best. From start to finish I can positively say they know what to do so that you can leave with a smile on your face. The service is amazing and it only took around 10-13 minutes after ordering to get our food.
The menu has a variety of different things on it, from sushi to fried tofu to different types of seafood salads. Whenever I go, I get sushi. I normally get different kinds every time because I like to try new things. If you don’t like seafood I certainly don’t think this is a good idea to go here. I know that my sister hates the smell of sushi and she isn’t too fond of the idea of my mom and I eating it. I can say that the smell of the restaurant isn’t a big deal bug me, unless you are someone who has a problem with a faint raw fish then I don’t recommend. Maru does not have the standard Coke or Pepsi products to choose from. They have different types of juices and lemonade type options. I don’t mind it, I think it’s cool and unique.
